Meet Armin
I'm Armin, the founder of luminastudio. What started as a fascination with lasers and optics turned into a quiet mission: to make holography personal. I record every hologram myself in our studio here in Budapest, using techniques that have hardly changed since the 1960s — because they still work beautifully.
Each piece is a collaboration. You send a photo of something that matters to you; I turn it into a 3D scan, print a physical master, and record its light into optical-grade glass. The result is not a picture on a screen — it is a real object that holds depth, waiting to be lit.
A brief history of holography
1947 — today- 1947The idea is born
Dennis Gabor invents holography while working to improve electron microscopy. The word itself comes from the Greek holos, meaning 'whole' — because a hologram captures the whole wave of light, not just an image.
- 1960Lasers make it real
The invention of the laser gives holographers a pure, coherent source of light. For the first time, three-dimensional recordings can be made with crisp, stable detail.
- 1962Reflection holograms arrive
Yuri Denisyuk develops the reflection hologram: light is recorded inside a thick emulsion or on glass, so the image can be replayed with an ordinary point of white light — like the flashlight on your phone.

At luminastudio we continue the craft with modern optical-grade glass, precise 3D scanning, and a quiet studio in Budapest where each hologram is recorded by hand.
Why reflection holograms?
Reflection holograms are special because they do not need a laser to be viewed. The image is reconstructed by any small, bright light — a phone flashlight, a candle, the sun catching the glass at the right angle. That is why they feel alive: the object appears to float in the plate, shifting as you move.
